Gold Medal in Orthodontic Examination (2012)
Dr May Ling Eide qualified from the University of Glasgow with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery with Honours in 2006. In 2003-2004, Dr. Eide also pursued an additional Intercalated degree in Microbiology, graduating with the Bachelor of Dental Science (Honours). She was the recipient of multiple undergraduate awards and certificates including the William Hunter Medal for Pathology, Pharmacology, and Microbiology, and the Maud Donoghue Gillis Prize for Child Dental Health/Orthodontics. Dr. Eide was also awarded the Research Elective Scholarship from the Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians of Glasgow in 2005.
After completing her undergraduate studies, Dr. Eide went on to work in several House Officer positions in various dental practices, hospitals, and community outreach centers in the West of Scotland. These positions allowed her to gain invaluable experience in a multitude of different dental specialties, including Oral and Maxillofacial surgery, Special Needs Dentistry, Paediatric Dentistry, Restorative Dentistry, and of course, Orthodontics. Dr. Eide's love for both academia and clinical dentistry encouraged her to pursue her favourite topic of study: Orthodontics.
In 2009, Dr. Eide was accepted onto the highly competitive Orthodontic Specialty Training Programme at the prestigious University College London Eastman Dental Institute. This 3-year full-time orthodontic programme gave Dr. Eide the opportunity to learn from leaders in the field of Orthodontics, and this was where she began to understand the blend of knowledge, medicine, art, and science that defines the specialty of Orthodontics.
The intense training programme produced a Masters in Clinical Dentistry (Orthodontics) with Merit for Dr Eide in 2011. In 2012, Dr. Eide won the 3M Unitek Prize for the top Orthodontic graduate of her cohort. In the same year, Dr Eide won the British Orthodontic Society J.K Williams Gold Medal, which is awarded annually to the best candidate at the Intercollegiate Membership of Orthodontics examination in the UK. She obtained the Intercollegiate Membership in Orthodontics with the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians of Glasgow.
Dr Eide has been awarded a Certificate of Completion of Specialty Training by the London Deanery, and is registered to practice the specialty of Orthodontics with the General Dental Council UK.
Dr Eide is committed to her continuing professional and educational development, and is a member of multiple Orthodontic associations and organisations including the Singapore Dental Association, Association of Orthodontists Singapore, World Federation of Orthodontists, American Association of Orthodontists, and the British Orthodontic Society.
Upon completion of her postgraduate Orthodontic training, Dr Eide returned to Singapore and has been in full-time private practice since. She was the main provider of Orthodontic treatments, braces and Invisalign at a multi-specialty group practice for more than 10 years, and is now concentrating on her Orthodontic practice at Skye Dental.
Dr Eide enjoys treating patients of all ages, but she has a particular soft spot for the wee ones. She believes in helping patients acquire the knowledge and understanding regarding their conditions, however small or large, and in delivering the best quality of care to achieve their perfect dream smiles. Dr Eide has a wealth of experience with providing all types of orthodontic treatments, including functional appliances, fixed metal and ceramic braces, Invisalign First, Invisalign Teen, and Invisalign clear aligner treatment for adults.
